4 Tips For Creating Healthy Habits
by Purple Carrot
If you made new year’s resolutions, how have they been going? This time of year—the end of January—is often the make-it-or-break-it period for a lot of folks who committed to resolutions. Which means it’s the perfect time to look at your habits and tweak them to make sure you’re on track for success.
Here are 4 tips for creating healthy habits:
1. Link it with an existing behavior
Do a few squats while brushing your teeth, or meditate for 5 minutes before sitting down to watch TV.
2. Start small and do it daily
Commit to doing small things often, instead of setting lofty goals that may be more challenging. Establish frequency first, then build from there.
3. Prepare for the occasional lapse, and don’t aim for perfection
If you veer off track, refocus on your goals, acknowledge that lapses will happen, and remember that it’s how you handle them that matters.
4. Hold Yourself Accountable
You can start a group “healthy habits” challenge with friends or family for additional motivation—just make sure it’s a positive influence and doesn’t feel overly competitive.
